Bryan Lee - Harpist

Harpist Bryan Lee is an active and ardent orchestral player: frequently performing with professional ensembles such as the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Kunming International Philharmonic, Silk Road Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra, Sun Symphony Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony of Malaysia, Penang Philharmonic, Kamerata KL, and KL Performing Arts Centre Orchestra. He has been previously invited to the position of Principal Harp for the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Nanchang Symphony Orchestra, and the Kunming International Philharmonic. His musical performances have taken him to venues across Malaysia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Azerbaijan, Philippines, and Australia. In 2018, he was invited to be a TEDx speaker in University Tun Hussein Onn.

 

In his youth, he was a founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and also played with the Penang Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Music Makers (Singapore), and the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre Orchestra. He was invited to be a member of the 2010 Youth Olympics Games Orchestra. In 2014, Bryan obtained his Bachelors Degree (Honours) in Harp Performance from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore with full scholarship under the tutelage of Gulnara Mashurova, Principal Harpist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Other former mentors include Chu Yee Chern, Sebastien Horrer, and Marianne Horrer.

 

His performance in Bruch's Scottish Fantasy in 2012 at Esplanade Concert Hall (Singapore) won him a review by the late Dr. Marc Rochester as "one of the brightest stars of the performance". The Straits Times (Singapore) also described his playing in the same concert as "warm and beautifully projected, bringing a much-needed aura of gracefulness to the performance". The Edge (Malaysia) wrote that “Bryan Lee is so talented it is almost intimidating”. Prof. Florence Sitruk praised Bryan for his “beautiful sound (and) flawless technique”. Bryan was a prize winner in the first Singapore-Malaysia Harp Competition and the first Singapore Ensemble Competition.
